I originally became a fan of the author after reading her other work, “The Ammolite Adventures: Bluestone” and although that left me quite impressed, I must say that I personally think this book is even better. I’m taking a guess here, but I’m assuming this was written quite a while after the other book (it is volume 2, after all), as it seems to me that the author’s writing style has matured a great deal and it genuinely seems much more well-refined and constructed. Either way, the point is I am left more than satisfied yet again and it has given me yet another reason to keep being a fan of the author, as well as keeping an eye out for future release. I won’t go into the details of the plot, as I’m sure most readers have a pretty deep understanding of the world that the author has crafted in the first book in this series and on that note, I would say to not look at this book as a standalone read – and instead I recommend starting at the beginning as this is a truly more than worthwhile series that should be experienced to it’s fullest extent. Definitely worth the read.Tags : The Ammolite Adventures: Redstone - Kindle edition by C.E. Johnson. Download it once and read it on your Kindle device, PC, phones or tablets. The Ammolite Adventures Redstone eBook CE Johnson Reviews
I really enjoyed this second book in the Ammolite Adventure Series. Emily ventures to the world of Acacia and enters a world of magicians battling for its rule. She meets new friends and loyal allies in her journey and gains the knowledge and confidence to pursue her destiny of becoming an arch-mage. Definitely a page turner, especially towards the end of the book, where many revelations are made.
I, a 12 year old boy (6th grader), previously read The Ammolite Adventures Bluestone (volume 1) and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a perfect combination of science fiction and fantasy. Earlier this month, it came to my attention that The Ammolite Adventures Redsone (volume 2) was on the shelves so I asked my parents to purchase the book for me. The first volume was certainly a great read; the second volume was seriously an even better one! I took it on our road trip from Austin, TX to Panama City Beach, FL and never put it down. To all my Middle School friends, add the books of C.E. Johnson to your list of summer break reads. They will give you hours of pure reading pleasure. I am a total fan of this newly discovered author and hope to see much more of him in the future.
This second volume of C.J. Johnson’s collection of fantasy novels is a great read for anyone. You don’t have to be a fantasy fan to enjoy a good novel. The novel is about a young girl named Emily who embarks on a journey to save her Godfather and to learn more magic. However, the story is full of surprises and had some unpredictable twists that will keep you reading this cover to cover. This young girl encounters many obstacles, but will not be defeated.
First off This novel follows Bluestone, the first in a series, and as I understand, there will be other titles to follow.
Main protagonist, Emily, is not your average 14-year old by any stretch; she possesses supernatural abilities including telepathy, her Doberman dog Xena has the ability to communicate and share thoughts and events unfolding..Once in the parallel world of Acacia, Emily will have a chance to make greater strides in the magical arts. She and Xena are on a mission that becomes perilous when an evil magician, Cyril, will stop at nothing to halt her plans to reunite with her godfather, Dr. D.
I felt as if the author did well in a story of the fantasy genre with its lineup of characters well known to us through folklore (dragons, elves, etc.) but there was nothing formulaic about the story itself. It was an original, unique plot.
A handy glossary of characters and locations included was a nice addition too, as they were quite many.
I was referred to this book by a friend that raved about it and said it would give the Shannara series books a run for their money, and I was not disappointed! I am an avid reader of fantasy and this book took me away to another world and I truly felt as if I was there watching the whole story unfold. Redstone (Ammolite Adventures) was one of the best fantasies I have read in a very long time. The characters were outstanding and I had no problem picturing them in my minds eye. There is no better way to spend an afternoon than curled up in your favourite chair with a good book and this one was a 10 on my scale. Thanks to my friend for referring it and thank you to the author for taking me on this adventure, I will be sure to pick up the rest of this series!
Emily’s godfather, Dr. D. is under the influence of a military organization called Blacksky and when Emily decides to make good on her promise to go on to the legendary school of magic called Acacia. Determined to better her magic skills, discover the true identities of her parents and to eventually rescue Dr. D. In the meantime, a wicked magician named Cyril, who with his group of followers, are in hot pursuit of her and ready to do whatever necessary to stop her. But she has a few secret weapons—a gigantic Doberman with whom Emily can communicate telepathically, and her own heightened supernatural abilities.
I was excited to download this second book in The Ammonite Adventure Series, having loved the first installment so much. The writing is impressive—descriptive, well-paced, and a twisting, unpredictable storyline. Plus, the young heroine, Emily is a terrific foil to the evil Cyril. She smart, tough, and motivated—wonderfully unique and relatable to both younger readers and adult fantasy lovers alike.Highly recommend.
