Above the Sky A PostApocalyptic Adventure with Twists and Turns The Sky Series Book 1 eBook JW Lynne Reviews
I just finished book three in this series and thought I would come back and review the first book for those who are trying to decide if they should read this. Yes! This book has great characters, perfect pacing, and lots of twists. I read a lot, so it takes a lot to please me these days. This book has everything I look for in a book. I got this book free with Prime, then happily paid for books 2, 3, and 4. I am not the target audience (I'm in my 50's), but I still really enjoyed it. I think it is a great book for all ages. Highly recommended.
Loved it!! I'm a huge fan of dystopian type stories, so that aspect of this book was super great, and even though dystopian is a popular story to write at this time, I still felt that this book was unique enough that I didn't feel like I have read it before. Seven is our lead for the story, and the entire book is from her point of view, she's just turning 18, and it's time for her to be assigned a job and a mate, well as long as she's not chosen to be a warrior. The warriors are sent to the surface where there is a war that is suppose to be going on; all the residents of Seven's home are rather kept in the dark about anything that is really going on, and the residents don't question anything. The place Seven is from is sheltered, and the rules are strict; people aren't even allowed to touch until they are mated and only in private. I loved that there are robots around town, and I love that the story felt futuristic, but still heartfelt. Seven has a close friendship with a friend from her childhood, his name is Ten, and I absolutely loved their relationship, its strong and they both really get each other. I couldn't put the book down! I just wanted to keep reading until I finished it, and I lost out on plenty of sleep because of this book, but it was surely worth it. I loved the training scenes, and all the scenes between Ten and Seven. I'm not super crazy about what happens towards the end, and I'm not thrilled that I have to wait to find out what happens until the next book, but I highly recommend this book. Truly excellent read!!
(I did receive this book as an ARC for an honest review...and I honestly loved it!)

This book was AWESOME!
It took me a long time because of the file format, and because of school. But man, this was like The Giver by Lois Lowry...an epic read.
Seven and Ten live in a society where jobs are assigned, and those chosen as Warriors are forced to go off to The War, a never-ending battle where people go to fight and never come back. Seven finds out her twin, Six, has been picked to go, along with her childhood love, Ten. Seven then makes a decision that changes all of their lives.
I won't write spoilers, but I will say that Lynne creates a story world that is rich in imagery and transports you to this dystopian future. Like The Giver, choices are made "in the best interest" of the community. Touching is not allowed. A spouse is assigned. Mating is taught after pairings. Creepy, but totally believable. A world I can picture, and a book that leaves you wanting more.
Lynne does end the book leaving room for more...could there be a sequel to Above The Sky? I think so...Lowry's story became a quartet (though it took her ten long and AGONIZING years for her to release it), and I think Lynne writes a bestseller. But she definitely left me, the reader, wanting more. I didn't want to finish the book for fear of ending the story, and I've only felt that way about a handful of books mainly those that had no sequels and had so much richness in the story world. The Host, by our famous Stephenie Meyer, is a prime example of a book that I read to the very last chapters and deliberately put down because I knew there was no sequel to comfort me when the story ended.
If you can, read this book. If you are a fan of YA dystopian fiction, and love books like The Hunger Games, Divergent, and The Maze Runner, this book is right up your alley.
I implore you, Jenny Lynne, please follow this up! I would definitely be first in line to read it.
Thank you for sharing a fresh take on a popular genre, and for giving me a chance to read it. Five stars!
There are so many things I loved about this book. It only took a few pages of reading to realize there was something very special about this story. First off, it is so well written, this author has an amazing ability to evoke a lot of emotion without dressing up every scene with an outpour of descriptive words. I love when books are written that way. Secondly, this is a phenomenal story! It's different from anything I've ever read before and it kept me guessing page after page. I felt drawn into this exciting world where anything could happen and despite whatever rules were put in place or societal norms established, the human condition can never be completely controlled or contained. Seven was an amazing female lead and I loved experiencing this story through her perspective. She was easy to connect with on so many levels. And thirdly, the love story in this book was so unbelievably powerful yet it never dominated the book. Ten and Seven have a relationship that just makes my heart want to burst. They are so protective and supportive of each other and their connection feels uniquely unbreakable. This book is a must read!!
Really nice story. Loved the concept. I was almost disappointed with the end because it left so much open, but then I realized there was a sequel. Great read.
Good read.
I have so much love for this book, I can't even begin to describe it. I desperately need the sequel.
Got it for my kids, and they love it - they have now got the other books in the series.
(Its great to see them reading).
