I expected nothing but the best from Pepper however this story felt sterotyped. The Asian with a love for a big bootied, weave wearing, black female. The story for me was alright I understand completely about diversity and the different cultures. But with this book it was all about Toi/Tony/T-dog his likes and dislikes. Nikita the lead I only know that she was black, major cleavage and big butt. I didn't like the fact that Nikita called him by his highschool nickname of T-Dog even when they were together as a couple or when he took her on a shopping spree it just seemed juvenile he is in his 30's. I really don't know what to say I just felt it was missing something. I could take or leave this book nothing was memorable for me.

Toi is Japanese American, who insisted on going by the name Tony. He was raised in a black community and went to a black school. He considered himself black, and he loves black girls. But, he wasn't truly lucky in love until Nikki, an African American, came to work at the company where he would be her supervisor. He was instantly attracted to her from day one. I won't go into the rest of story because I want you to read it for yourself and you decide. As for me, I love this story. I felt good not to have plenty of angst for a change, and Tony and Niki was made for each other. Would I recommend this book to my friends, hell yeah! It's a quick read of friendship, respect, and sex for a slow afternoon.
Once again Ms. Pace creates characters that are magnificently real and flawed. I loved that this was a Japanese man and a full figured black woman. The story was completely believable because the characters faced real challenges within their lives that had then anchoring themselves in their love.
Toi and Nikita were so great. I was happy that they were not the traditional guy taller than girl combo that we believe is the standard. I loved the supporting characters especially Toi's. mom. She is a hoot. I don't want to give too much a way, so I will say this, if you have not read a Pepper Pace story then you are missing out on some absolutely meets, real, and inspiring stories. She writes so that you connect with the characters beyond the superficial glance over. Eyes become open to the truth, love is perfect not necessarily the people involved. Love doesn't ask for perfection but gives it when the heart sees it clearly.
Thank you again for such a deep worthy IR read. I look forward to more high quality IR stories from Ms. Pace.
If you as a reader want a lot of fluff with your erotica or romance don't bother reading this. There is a lot of depth and genuine roller coaster ride going on figuratively. I didn't like Nikita at first but she did redeem herself in the best way.
It's funny, I'm a huge fan of IR relationships but I never paid much attention to stories center around AM/BW, until now. Tony and Nikki were made for each other. I thought they had real chemistry. It was kind of surprising how fast Tony fell for Nikki but it was all good, because he'd been looking for his sista' for a minute so... The love scenes are hot. I speak for myself but I smirked a lot with the whole height difference between them. I would like a Tony myself since he was so attentive and understanding to the changes that started to happened between them. The funniest part was what happened between them in the office (NOTE READ IT FOR YOURSELF) I did wonder what was up with his mother losing/gaining her accent when it benefit her and why she was never called out about it. It's a great read and I loved how committed Tony and Nikki were to each other.
Uhhh..ok I got this book after reading the Pace novels Beast, Tru's Love, The Miseducation of Riley Pranger, etc.. I was so impressed and entertained by those I bought this book thinking it would be just as good.
Wrong! Uh that first person narrative is stilted, repetitive and amateurish.
From page one it's full of stereotypes that I found irritating to say the least. I was so turned off I could not finish it. WTF happened?!?
Ugh...this crap doesn't merit one star in my book. But I had to put something there. Total turnoff for me..I will be deleting this trash from my library.👎😠
I had just finished "Beast" and I remember thinking I bet Pepper would not tackle a shorter male character. I think someone has been slipping Pepper Pace my mail , because she does just that. As usual she does it fabulously.

This is not the Pepper Pace novel we have become accustom to. There are no physical or mental challenges to overcome or incredible hardship the couple must deal with, but in every other way it is Pepper Pace. It's amazing, agonizing and fulfilling.

Toi Yakamoto is such an amazing character, after about 10 pages the last thing on your mind in his height. He gives Sexy new meaning, I can't honestly understand how any woman could overlook this man. The word that comes to mind when I think of him is "Elegant".

Nikita may be my favorite "PP" female character. I loved her "classy, unapologetic flamboyance". She's smart and savvy and once she falls for Toi/Tony she does not falter. She makes me rethink some of my more conservative and demure choices. And If Toi's mother has a problem with her, she is just going to win her over, there is no other choice. Pepper pace writes strong female characters without making them "screaming, neck rolling banshees" they're determined and willful but also reasonable and logical.

Together Toi and Nikki are combustible. To say they are "hot" is such an understatement. Nikita is the yin to Toi's yang, they are what the other craves and has been waiting for.

I love the dialog in this book it's crisp, unexpected and realistic, all the characters are nicely fleshed out and you understand their actions and motivations.

I've read it twice, the second reading really blew me away. As usual whatever Pepper Pace novel I'm reading is my favorite......

P.S. Mrs. Yakamoto is my girl.....you'll understand once you read the book.
